Losers in L.A. One Page...
Title:Losers in LA (C & K in LA)
Logline:
Two madcap British socialites wreak havoc in Hollywood with their live talk show.
Format of show:
Hybrid (situation comedy/talk show/improv) Length TBD.
Writers Guild of America #: 996756
Author names:
Cymbeline Smith and Krista Behi
Treatment:
This situation comedy is filmed in documentary style,
which exposes the chaotic world of these two talk show hosts in
their new American environment as they aspire for huge ratings.
Welcome to the talk show world of ‘Losers in LA’;
a place of wit,
Freudian misunderstandings
and multiple egos
(That includes their confused Celebrity guests)
‘Losers in LA’ introduces the charming, but repeatedly inappropriate hosts:
KAITLIN, the jaded dyslexic and
CRYSTAL the star struck dreamer.
They are surrounded by their misfit crew of American characters:
STEVE GRUFF the disgruntled Cameraman,
MR.GOLDSTEIN the neurotic (but the girls think he is their own
‘Charlie’ from Charlie’s Angels) Producer,
RAMON the flamboyant Stylist and
PHYLLIS the “Old Hollywood” Kraft Services Lady,
who has one too many secrets in her past!
Crystal and Kaitlin’s irrelevant tangents, catfights and Bollywood (dance) breaks unintentionally humiliate themselves and embarrass their celebrity guests.
Not since Laverne & Shirley have you seen anything like the chemistry, incredible wit
and repartee that these two women have. They have an uncanny ability to “get it wrong”
whilst remaining irresistible, especially to the celebrities, as they charm their way
between British and American humor. (And no, they’re not Canadian!)
Tinsel town history is about to be ceremoniously unmade.
Synopsis of Episode One/Pilot:
We join Crystal and Kaitlin at the beginning of taping their talk show “C&K in LA”.
This week they know they have to “get it right, or else…” Crystal and Kaitlin
blunder their way through segments like “Cultural Exchange” and “Book Club”.
The Documentary crew captures them behind the scenes and follows them
everywhere as they learn how to order water in a restaurant and bag groceries so
as not to break the eggs! Bob (documentary interviewer) asks them about how
they’re adjusting to life in America and about their hilarious childhood.
Steve (cameraman) gives the girls apiece of his mind, Mr. Goldstein
(producer) needs more than valium to calm his nerves and Phyllis (Kraft
Services) reminds them that Clark Gable was once her lover.
By the time they reach the “Celebrity Interview” the talk show has spun out of
control. Kaitlin and Crystal’s attempts to win over the TV audience with their
“hard hitting honesty”, climaxes with them focusing inappropriately on the
celebrity guest’s Middle-Eastern decent. The show falls apart with the celebrity
guest’s abrupt departure followed by a phone call from an infuriated Mr.
Goldstein! Crystal and Kaitlin compensate for the upheaval with their “mutual
admiration society”, fully supported by Ramon (Stylist), as they convince
themselves and the audience that they are, in fact, genius together.
